sticks and stones

by no means is today the last of family Friday (selfishly, I plan to continue this series indefinitely because I just love having all the pictures of the boys!!), but today does mark our final post at the Hype Park Polo Club.  the family was so incredibly generous to let us take over their property and roam the grounds for the afternoon.  I am at this moment planning, what is sure to be, an over the top Christmas card hopefully taking place in the barn between those big red doors!!
those very doors were my inspiration for all the looks I pulled for our shoot.  if you look back, you'll notice all our outfits are classic colors (mostly olive) and barn friendly!! so today it was all about the red!!  something about army green and red just speaks to me!  its not an obvious pairing,  but it always looks sharp together.  I went all white for the base of my look with my favorite envelope skort, seen first HERE and again HERE.  the lace tee is a bit daring, which is clearly why I chose it (wink wink) and taking note from yesterdays post, I layered a strappy white bra top underneath to keep my tatas appropriately covered.  this jacket is an oldie, but a goodie, and was actually first seen in my second blog post!!  as you can see, I like it paired with white, but I do also layer it over a rocker tee or striped tank from time to time.  I stuck with white for the bag as well and in playing with the diamond pockets, I layered on diamond and Lucite accessories.  the Lucite is also what tied in these patent red pumps!!  im sure you've seen plenty of them by now, but I just cant get enough!!  and for sure they will be popping up all over the blog for fall.
both the boys are again playing off my color palate without really matching, you know how we do!  I like to encourage their own sense of style, and trust me, they definitely are opposites when it comes to fashion choices!!  Phoenix is still my budding stylist, always wanting to pick out what everyone wears and making sure it matches.  its too funny.  Lincoln on the other hand, would just prefer to be naked.  he's a typical boy, putting it all out there for the world to see!

preppy pastures

happy family Friday y'all!!!
today's post is the epitome of candid; as are most children's shots, because they're so easily distracted, but these snaps in particular because we were in the middle of a pasture, surrounded by the most gorgeous horses at the Hyde Park Polo Club.  you can only imagine the beauty of these animals.  Phoenix is a bit timid around most living creatures, Lincoln on the other hand, has no fear, and was desperate to hop aboard.  of the entire day spent shooting on this gorgeous property, this spot was my favorite!!
on a busy day with the boys, I stick within 2 realms, hobo/boho and preppy chic.  I know they're on drastic ends of the spectrum, and I favor the bohemian side, but I always find they're wardrobe to be on the preppy side, so I tend to fall in line and continue the trend.  don't expect to see me in chino shorts and tasseled loafers, but I can rock a ralph lauren inspired ensemble with a twist.  this blazer has been in my closet for a few years now, (see it worn HERE) it's so polished and perfect that I had to rough it up with these shredded bfs and hi top chucks.  its still a classic look, but a little less stuffy.  my red bag makes the perfect pop to this toned down palate and completes the look in style.

thank goodness it FRIDAY!!!
another week has passed all too fast and its already time for another fashion family segment!!
today takes us back to the Hyde Park Polo Club who were all too generous to allow us such a beautiful backdrop to a day of uninterrupted fun with my 2 boys.  with acres of land, and not a sole in sight, we had full freedom to run and play, it was bliss!
of course, like most children, the dirt is the most intriguing toy of all, so they spent a majority of the afternoon plundering for buried treasure.
I've been on a bit of a olive/utility kick as of late, especially when it comes to coordinating with the boys.  I have a healthy collection of jacket, shirts and vest all falling in the army fatigue category, but this vest is one of my absolute faves!!  for 1, its rare to find such a long length in a vest, and this was my main attraction, but also, I love the big pockets and epaulettes.  all the little details make this a definite winner.  I love pops of pretty with tough so i paired it with this dainty lace tank for a bit of a juxtaposition.  the shorts are the cutoff version of my bf jeans and I have them in 2 washes (denim and white) because they are just that comfortable!!!  the slouchiness of them, omg, I cant explain it, you'll never want to take them off.  I gave them a haphazard roll, but I wear them down as well.  I popped in some red with my celine-inspired bag and layered on burnished gold accessories to top off the look.  now, all of that is fine and dandy, but my main focus of this outfit is the shoes!!!  the valentino rockstuds are by no means new to the fashion game and i've been rocking my boutique 9 version for years, but this pair is a dead ringer!!  in fact, they're soo good, I got another pair in neon yellow, and you will die when you see them!!!  both are available at GoJane and Lulus and for under $40 a pop, I can't imagine they will last long!!
On to the boys, Nix loves his camo (because daddy wears it) and this tee is too cute.  I paired it with denim cutoffs and rolled the bottoms.  sidenote; I always roll the bottoms, boys clothes can be a bit boring, so anywhere I can add an extra touch I do, I roll their pants and sleeves on most all occasions.  he loves his sunnies and these olive green wayfarers match perfectly. Linc is a bit more polished in his classic polo and chinos.  he had a denim jacket, but it was far too warm to put it on.  finished them both off with chucks.
